There is no best pass for everyone, only the best one for your trip. For two to five days with many sights the City Pass, for a short list on flexible dates the Flex Pass, for a fixed one-day plan the Athens Pass, for a year of validity and a transport day the MegaPass. The comparison matches each pass to a trip.

Only if you visit several paid sights. In summer the Acropolis, the Acropolis Museum and a bus day together cost about as much as the entry-level passes; every further museum is a gain. For the Acropolis alone the single ticket is cheaper, and visitors under 18 and EU citizens up to 24 enter free anyway.

Technically yes, sensibly rarely. All four passes include the Acropolis and its museum, so a second pass would pay for the same sights twice. Combine a pass with single tickets instead, for example for the National Archaeological Museum, which no pass includes.

No. The largest museum in Athens is in none of the four passes. Buy its ticket at the door or online; EU citizens under 25 enter free there as well. The attractions page lists what each pass covers.

By e-mail, as a digital pass or e-tickets with QR codes, usually within minutes. Save it on your phone; nothing needs to be printed or collected in Athens.

It depends. The City Pass asks for a start date, the Athens Pass for the date and time slot of each part. The Flex Pass and the MegaPass are bought without a date and start with the first use, though the Acropolis slot still has to be reserved.

Four ways. The City Pass runs on one to six consecutive days from the chosen start date. The Flex Pass gives you 30 days from the first visit for your picks. The Athens Pass is tied to the reserved slots. The MegaPass is valid for 365 days from the start date you choose, each part once.

With the City Pass yes, the days run from the start date without a pause. The Flex Pass and the MegaPass have no run of days: every pick or part can be used on any day within its window.

The City Pass has to be used for the first time within twelve months of purchase. The MegaPass runs for 365 days from the start date you pick. The Athens Pass is bound to the dates you reserve when booking.

Yes. Entry to the Acropolis is timed for everyone. The City Pass and the Athens Pass reserve the slot with the purchase, with the Flex Pass you reserve it yourself, and with the MegaPass you pick dates and slots in the MegaPass account after booking. The Acropolis ticket page explains the slots.

You skip the ticket desk, not the security check. All four passes state skip-the-line entry to the Acropolis, which means the ticket queue; bag checks at the gate remain for everyone.

Visitors under 18 and EU citizens up to 24 with an ID card, and everyone on the free admission days. From November to March everyone enters free on the first and third Sunday of the month; a reduced winter price no longer exists since April 2025. Details on the Acropolis ticket page.

Not as standard. The City Pass sells a transport ticket as an add-on for one or five days and the MegaPass Explorer tier includes a 24-hour ticket, both valid on metro, tram and bus but not on the airport line. See the public transport page.

Only on sightseeing days. The bus is included in the City Pass, the Athens Pass and the MegaPass and is a pick in the Flex Pass, but it stops in the evening and does not serve the airport or most hotel streets.

Yes. The Turbopass passes have a child rate from 6 to 17 and a reduced rate for EU citizens aged 18 to 24. Tiqets and Headout show their age groups in the booking step. The current amounts are on the prices page.

Less often than for adults. Children under 18 enter the Acropolis and the state museums free, so a child pass mainly pays for the bus and the private museums. Buy the adults a pass and the children single tickets where needed.

It depends on the issuer. Turbopass refunds the City Pass minus a handling fee until the day before the first day of validity, as long as nothing has been used or reserved; the Flex Pass is free to cancel while no pick has been reserved. The Athens Pass from Tiqets and the MegaPass from Headout are sold without a refund option.

With the City Pass a change is possible for a fee, if the new date is available. The Athens Pass cannot be changed once the slots are reserved. The Flex Pass has no start date to change; the MegaPass cannot be moved once booked.

Strikes and unannounced closures happen in Athens, especially at the state sites. The issuers do not refund a closed sight within a pass; they refer you to the other included sights. Check the opening notices of the Acropolis on the morning of your visit.
